About

Battle of Bosworth is a family- owned grape growing and winemaking business located in the foothills of the Mt Lofty ranges in the Willunga sub-region of the McLaren Vale wine region. Taking its name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485, the wine label was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith. All of the Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wine Co wines are estate-grown from vineyards established in the early 1970’s by Joch’s parents. Vineyards have been organically grown since 1995. Battle of Bosworth released the first certified organic wines from McLaren Vale in 2003, a Shiraz and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Organic viticulture, traditional winemaking, and minimal intervention combine to capture the purity, texture, and flavour of the unique foothills site in the Bosworth wines. Cellar door was opened in 2011 in a historic chaff shed and stables on the home property (circa 1850), overlooking our Hill Block Shiraz with stunning views over our vineyards to the north and the Gulf St Vincent to the west.
